radiation therapy
A new way to fight operable brain tumors. GammaTile®* is indicated as a treatment for patients with newly diagnosed malignant (cancerous) brain tumors and patients with recurrent brain tumors.
How does GammaTile work?
GammaTile is implanted in the brain during surgery, right at the site where your tumor was removed. Once in place, GammaTile immediately begins delivering targeted radiation to destroy remaining cancer cells while protecting healthy brain tissue.
GammaTile delivers radiation therapy directly where and when it is needed.1,2
Tumor is surgically removed
Your surgeon removes the brain tumor during surgery, creating a cavity where the tumor was located.
GammaTiles are placed in the cavity
Right after surgery, your surgeon places small, radiation-embedded tiles (GammaTiles) directly into the cavity. These tiles are designed to deliver precise, localized radiation to the area where the tumor was removed.1
Targeted radiation begins immediately
Once in place, GammaTile begins working right away - delivering radiation precisely where it’s needed, while minimizing exposure to healthy brain tissue.1,2
Radiation continues as you recover
The GammaTiles stay in place, releasing radiation over several weeks as you recover from surgery. The radiation gradually fades, and the tiles themselves are safely absorbed by your body over time.1,3
Designed to reduce the risk of tumor regrowth and minimize possible side effects
By targeting radiation precisely where it’s needed, GammaTile helps reduce the risk of tumor regrowth, while also minimizing the side effects often associated with external beam radiation.3-10
50% of the treatment is delivered within the first 10 days after surgery, which helps prevent remaining tumor cells from regrowing.3
The majority of the GammaTile radiation treatment is delivered within ~30 days.3
Over time, after all of the treatment has been delivered, the collagen naturally dissolves in the body.3
